Dig deep and explore a new level of improv. Every Underground show features two troupes with their own unique spin on the art and craft of improvised theatre.

FEATURING PUSH BUTTON & VINNY FRANCOIS AND PALS

Vinny Francois is one of Canada’s veteran improvisers, and a founding director of Montreal Improv.

Act 1: I Love Love, Directed by Vinny Francois

“I Love Love” is an improvised play exploring that most infuriating and intoxicating emotion. This show explores not just the funny side of love and relationships, but also the parts that can make us angry, comforted or heartbroken.

After debuting at the Vancouver International Improv Festival in 2018, this show has also been performed in Montreal with an international cast of performers. Created and directed by our guest curator Vinny Francois of Montreal Improv.

Act 2: Group Chat feat. Nap Jerks

  • Are you perpetually glued to your phone?
  • Do you create insurmountable barriers to your interpersonal communication skills?
  • Are you unable to form intimate connections the old-fashioned way?

Same! Group Chat is a troupe of tech-savvy artists who perform improv inspired by your favourite social media platforms – from the trending Tweets to Skype calls with your mom! 

Watch these Millennials cope with crushing debt and imminent ecological disaster by laughing at the absurdity of our modern existence!

This two-act show runs from 8pm to 10pm with a brief intermission.

Tickets are $12 online or $15 at the door. Students 2-for-1 at the door, with student ID.

ACT 1: STARFLEET CONFIDENTIAL: AN IMPROVISED STAR TREK

The Kinkonauts don their uniforms to seek out new laughs and comedic situations in a loving parody of the Star Trek franchise.

With each improvised episode, the crew of the USS Callipygian explore strange new audience suggestions all while saving helpless colonists, dodging phaser fire, and enjoying some earl grey tea, hot!

ACT 2: TOKENS (Rapid Fire Theatre) feat. Conservatory

The second act features a very special guest performance from our friends at Rapid Fire Theatre in Edmonton.

Tokens brings you family drama juicier than the turkey and funnier than the dad jokes.

THIS TWO-ACT SHOW RUNS FROM 8PM TO 10PM WITH A BRIEF INTERMISSION.

Act 1: Beauty Love Truth feat. Emily Triggs

Beauty Love Truth combines live music and heartfelt improv. Performing scenes inspired by original songs, the improvisers bring new meaning to the lyrics through tales of heartbreak, happiness and hope.

Featuring guest musician Emily Triggs

Emily Triggs is a prolific songwriter with a passion for storytelling.  Sometimes likened to Patty Griffin and Michelle Shocked, Emily’s unique brand of folk/roots showcases her honest, pure vocals.

Emily’s debut album ‘When Guinevere Went Under’, received radio play across the country and into the United States. Emily has performed at CBC, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Calgary Folk Music Festival and Wide Cut Weekend. With her soon-to-be-released album, ‘Middletown, ’Triggs is busting down walls that confine an artist to expectations and genres.

Act 2: Dream Toast

A show based entirely on dream logic where dreams inspire dreams inspire dreams. It gets weird, nothing makes sense and your mom is there with a different face, but in the end it all means something. Delve into your subconscious with Dream Toast and discover the zany world of dream “logic.”

This two-act show runs from 8pm to 10pm with a brief intermission.

Act 1: Holiday Radio Play: It’s an Okay Life, Considering

Watch someone’s life transformed this holiday season! This unique show takes its cue from the radio plays popularized in the 1930s and 40s, and from the magic of Frank Capra’s classic film It’s a Wonderful Life.

This completely improvised radio play features live actors, made up stories, improvised product sponsor ads, and live music and sound effects!

Featuring live performances from Mandy Morris and her jazz quartet! Produced in partnership with CJSW.
